Science to the Regions

The Empathy Charitable Foundation, founded by Mikhail Shelkov, along with the Foundation for Development of Physics and Technology Schools present a free physics-mathematics and IT program for pupils from Sverdlovsk and Perm Regions in Moscow. This educational project allows students to improve their knowledge in physics, mathematics or informatics, receive training from the best teachers at MIPT in Moscow, visit the university's museum and closed laboratories, and prepare for Olympiads and scientific conferences.

The specialists from Empathy and the Foundation for Development of Physics and Technology Schools have selected 60 students and 8 teachers from the Sverdlovsk Region and Perm Region to participate in the free physics-mathematics and IT program in Moscow.

What are the directions of the program?

  • Physics-mathematics – for participants from Perm Krai.
  • IT and mathematics – for participants from the Sverdlovsk Region.

 

Where and when will the in-person program take place?

  • The in-person program will take place at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) in Dolgoprudny, Moscow Region. It will be held from March 18 to 31.

 

Who is this program for?

  • This program is for enthusiastic students in the 8th and 9th grades who are interested in physics, mathematics and computer science, as well as for teachers of these subjects.

 

Which cities’ students and teachers can participate in the program this year?

  • From the Sverdlovsk Region: Yekaterinburg, Verkhnyaya Saldа and Nizhnyaya Saldа – 30 students and 4 teachers.
  • From Perm Region: Perm and Berezniki – 30 students and 4 teachers.

 

How much does participation in the program cost?

Thanks to the support of the Empathy Foundation, participation in the program, including transportation, accommodation, meals, education and excursions will be free for all students and teachers.

 

What are the selection criteria for teachers?

Among all the applications, 2 will be selected from each region (a total of 4 teachers per region).

Each application should include 2 teachers from the same educational institution.

  • From Perm Region (Perm, Berezniki): one physics teacher and one mathematics teacher.
  • From Sverdlovsk Region (Yekaterinburg, Verkhnyaya Saldа, Nizhnyaya Saldа): one mathematics teacher and one computer science teacher.

Timeline

  • – January 17 to February 17: Participant selection
  • – February 28: Publication of the list of participants for the educational program
  • – March 18 to 31: Educational program at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) 
  • – April 2023 to April 2024: Consultations for students planning to participate in conferences
  • – September 2023 to March 2024: Participation in project conferences “Start in Innovation”, “Start in Science”  or any other conference according to their interests

At the end of the program, each participant received a certificate and make a decision regarding their further participation in project conferences. Throughout the year, MIPT experts will conduct additional online consultations to prepare them for the conferences.
