TikTok, rap battles and freedom of speech: How a married couple of teachers changed children’s attitude to school

Snob talked to modern teachers and winners of the contest about what their profession means to them, how to make their lessons interesting for children and how to maintain a balance between the status of teacher and friend.

Snob talked to the winners of the contest “Teaching as a Calling”, Alexei and Polina Subbotin about how to find a common language with students, how to make children interested in lessons so that learning does not seem like a torment to them, why it is so important to allow children to express themselves, and how to maintain a balance between the status of teacher and friend.

Alexey, an English teacher, and Polina, a computer science teacher, met at Education Center No. 7 in 2017. A couple of years later they got married, and in the summer of 2021 they had a daughter. Working at school only brought them closer together: the couple often discuss teaching approaches, school news and support each other. They share homework and care for their daughter and decided to participate in the regional competition for teachers, titled “Teaching as a Calling”, together. As a result, Alexey won in the category “Innovations and Traditions”, and Polina won in the category “Teacher of Additional Education”.
